How to create a city home in the suburbs

September 02, 2021

Did you move from the city to the suburbs? Are you living in the suburbs and dream to have a city home? Well, there is no need to worry. Here are some tips to give your suburb home a city feels by changing the home décor, adding wall art, and a splash of color. Let’s begin:

Leave the Floors Bare

Let's face it; city homes barely have many floor coverings except for a rug here and there. You could do the same for your suburb home. You can leave the concrete floor exposed or add a concrete stain or a dash of color if you want a vibrant look. If you are not a fan of concrete, you can use slate or some hardwood flooring. Add some rugs to match the home décor to give it a complete look.

Opt for Window Treatments

It is safe to say that your suburb home will have several windows. In some rooms, the windows will look right into your next-door neighbor's home, and chances are, their windows do the same. If you want to maintain your privacy and give them theirs, invest in good window treatment options. From curtains to drapes and blinds to shades, you have several options to choose from. You can also invest in motorized window treatments for a better experience. It would also go great with any form of wall art you might up.

Add Texture

Your city home probably had a cozy vibe to it. And that had to do with texture. You can do the same for your suburb home. In case you are wondering how to get texture, it is easy. Simply place the textural objects around your home. You will be compelled to touch and feel them.  You can use faux fur and linen as sheets. You can pile some extra pillows on your bed and place some throw blankets on the sofas. You can also mix materials like ceramic, wood, and leather to create a better sensation. If you want to go the extra mile, feel free to stack your books as they offer a more satisfying look.

Invest in Artwork

You can take home décor to a new level by investing in some colorful artwork. Your suburb home will typically have more space than your city home, although that’s not always the case. You can choose wall artwork with grey and black color combination and hang it on your wall. You can also throw in a splash of color by adding some throw pillows and other decorative décor in display areas to give your house a more city home vibe.

Get Good Lighting

Your city home probably wasn’t used to a lot of natural lighting, so you might feel a bit uncomfortable if that happens in your suburb home. However, you can always install floor lamps and table lamps to have more indoor lighting, although natural lighting is healthier.

There you have it, folks. You can now settle into your suburb home without any hassle!
